Kitchen Pantry
I have always wanted a kitchen pantry for as long as I can remember. We had one for a brief period of time when I was growing up. It was a walk-in pantry, kind of a glorified closet, but it was so useful. Now I live in an older home and voila; it has a walk in pantry.
It’s not fancy but it really does help me maximize my kitchen space because I can store not only food, but seldom used huge pots and pans on the top shelf, which leaves plenty of room in the kitchen cabinets for dishes. I can shop the warehouse stores to my heart’s content because I have a place to store a few cases of vegetables or paper towels. The best part is that it has a door. I keep things fairly neat, but if I get a little messy, no one will see it. If your neat freak mother in law pops in without calling; just throw everything in there and shut the door. A word of caution if you have pets; they seem to know that it houses food and I cannot tell you how many times I have shut one of my small dogs up in there while I was putting things away.
If you don’t have the space or the desire for a walk-in pantry; there are plenty of attractive and useful options for your food staples, canned goods, and paper supplies. If you live in an apartment or home with limited kitchen space you can buy a rolling pantry that will fit into the space of a broom closet. You’ll be amazed at the amount of things it will hold. It is barely noticeable between the refrigerator and the built in cabinets and for the price of around $150.00 or less, you’ll have the extra storage space you need. These come in lots of colors and wood finishes so you’re sure to find something that will blend in with your existing cabinets.
If you have a little more room or a country kitchen; there are some lovely freestanding kitchen pantry options. Even if your kitchen is very modern; you can add a sleek stainless steel pantry cabinet. I have seen everything from jelly cupboards, to reproduction baker’s cabinets used as a pantry item. Some of them can be used as a kitchen island as well. Some have shelves and pull-out wicker baskets with a butcher block top. They really are multipurpose and if your kitchen is small; they’ll greatly increase your storage capacity. Kitchen pantry cabinets come in many color choices as well as wood finishes. If you check around; you’ll find the perfect match for your kitchen.
